Over time, I will be writing about 500 baseball players who might have been limited in Major League Baseball ability, but contributed to the game through hustle and a general love of the game. Please note that even mediocre Major League baseball players are amongst the best baseball players in the world -- very few high school and college players even make it to the minors! Please feel free to comment on the players mentioned, or send in some of your favorite players who fit into this category! It's a different way to recognize the greatness of our National Pastime! The thoughts expressed on this blog are purely opinion and are meant as a loving, good-natured tribute to our favorite game. Now Batting: Frank Quilici, of the Minnesota Twins!

Mediocre Major League Baseball Players -- Frank Quilici
Frank Quilici (pictured above) not only had a cool one-of-a-kind name, but he contributed in a fine way to the Twins in the late 1960s and early 1970s as an adept second baseman, short stop and third baseman. He generally hit in the low 200s, but actually managed to skyrocket his average to 245 in 1968.

Whenever I saw Quilici play, he always seemed to do something right. I believe he was a fundamentally sound baseball player who just couldn't hit a lick.

The 1971 Sporting News Baseball Register mentioned that Quilici liked "puttering around the house with tools."
